Changing leaves

Just in case you think I've abandoned the tree, I didn't.  But almost did.  June and July got away from me and suddenly it was middle of August so I thought I'd better do something or it would soon be October. My pattern has been to collect about two weeks of temperatures and then stitch but I let two MONTHS go.  I'm still not happy with the colors.  What are some of you who are doing this tree going to do with your piece after it's finished?

Truth be told, I have not had any desire to pick up a needle of any kind for weeks.  Sometimes I go through a no-mojo spell and just leave it.  When that happens it can take a lot for me to get back into the mood.  I read something the other day that advised "just take one step forward" so I did.  I picked up the tree.  It's so not anything like the pattern but tree leaves are sort of all over the place anyway, aren't they?   Taking that step worked for some piecing, too.  I haven't even thought of fabric for the whole summer but while it's hot and humid....again....and I'm cooped up inside for most of it there was no excuse.  Beats purging closets.

There are three little red ground squirrels who will NOT leave the bird feeders alone.  I even bought two new ones that have weighted perches but these squirrels are so little and they learned how to bypass and just gobble the food.  It's a constant battle.  I think a little red squirrel needs to be in that tree.

Grands are making their back to school plans.  This side of the state starts next week Tuesday, the east side of the state starts Sept. 2 this year  Labor Day is early.  College kids are back now.

The shadows are changing and lengthening, so fall is starting, pumpkin spice is everywhere but it's still hot and humid and I long for some relief.  Staying out of the stores because I can't look at Christmas creeping in yet.

  1. Your "but then what do I do with it?" has hit me so many times and kept me from starting many projects. Sometimes that's good (you can only have so many things hanging on the walls), but it also keeps me from the creative process that can make a bad day better. Maybe use the tree as a center, starting point, for a quilt or larger wall hanging? And those little red squirrels are way too smart! We had one here that learned to climb the chanel stuff and scoot along, upside down, along the porch roof to get to the bird feeder - and then around the squirrel baffle. But they're cute and the kitties enjoy watching them, so I guess they have some purpose?

  2. I love how the colours of your tree are opposite to the Aussie ones. It’s really taking shape now. I’m sure you will come up with some nice way to show it off.

  3. We have had a cooler than normal winter (I think it has been. maybe I am getting old...)
Great to see you back at the tree. In retrospect - I would have changed my colours ...but am not re doing it. My tree is also not perfect according to the pattern...but all the leaves are there and that is enough for me.
I will probably make mine in to a small wall hanging...maybe a 2" finished fabric border...or you could stretch it over a canvas board and hang it that way. Maria stitched 2025 under the base of the tree....just in case you like that idea too.
Can I put your picture in the Messenger Chat??
I hope your mojo is coming back...I had a few days when mine went AWOL, but I have recovered now!!! LOL...and I hope the weather is better for you.

  5. Lost mojo happens to all of us at some or more times. You’ll get there when the weather cools . I’m loving our winter and not at all looking forward to summer. What is pumpkin spice?

  8. I had to laugh about your comment on "purging closets" because that is exactly what I've been doing. I've been sorting through my clothing fabric boxes and getting rid of a lot. I still want to make the items and I love the fabric but I know I'll never sew it up.
I also found a box full of 3"squares that I cut up years ago. I figured I'd cut up my scraps into usable pieces and I've never used them. So whenever I feel like I just want to sit down and sew for 1/2 hr. I'm sewing them into 9-patches. They'll make something someday, even if it's curtains for my sewing room.

  9. I really like the looks of your tree. The colors are soft and pretty.
I also chuckled at your "purging closets" comment. Unlike Robin, I have not been doing it, but I have been aware of the need lately.
Can't even begin to think about pumpkin spice yet. It is far too hot--and this week our usually dry, high mountain desert climate is actually humid, too. I run outside long enough to move the water along the berry patch and rose bed, and scurry back inside.
Are you sure you want to memorialize the pesky little squirrels in your temperature tree piece? LOL
