Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire

It's Christmas at the Showboat and that means the riverfront is decorated and Santa is here.

The line to see Santa was long but it wasn't bitterly cold so while parents held place in line the kids ran and played tag to keep warm.  There were also free hot dogs and hot chocolate to help with that.
Santa always held court on the Showboat in years past but our showboat is now deemed unstable and will be taken down to make way for a new one to be built.  Santa had new quarters for this year so it all worked out fine.
The Lowell Area Historical Museum has a hot chestnut booth at this event.   Our daughter and son-in-law man the booth and this year had help from the girls.  Elizabeth was chief chestnut eater and Adelaide took money and they both sipped hot chocolate to stay warm.
As always, son-in-law is the chief roaster.  The chestnuts sell so fast he's really busy.  They buy 40 pounds of them and they said they thought they would run out this year.

It smells SO good. I think they taste a little like a baked potato.  Elizabeth says they taste better than that.

We were getting together with friends Aina and Terry so we met at the chestnut booth for 'appetizers' and then walked down the street for dinner. That's one of the things I like so much about this city.  There is always something going on, something to do, people walking around, and it's all fun.
