Water, Water Everywhere and Birthdays

One of Elizabeth's friends has a brother in the Robotics Club at the high school.  A summer fun activity for the club is to build a boat of cardboard and duct tape and float in it at a nearby park.  E's friend invited her to try her hand at it.  With just a day's notice and undaunted by the task Elizabeth was all in.  This is just her sort of thing.

With just a day's notice, she came up with this, complete with mermaid tail paddle.
There were many different designs - who knew which one would work, right?  Notice the little guy in the middle.  He's going into third grade and he made a raft.

Some looked like canoes, some like coffins and some like cardboard boxes covered in duct tape.

I thought the designer of this one was particularly ambitious, mounting a camera on his.
The girls boarded their boats ready to be pushed off into the water.  Their "heat" was for one person vessels.
It didn't take long.  They both sank immediately.

But Elizabeth was determined and I think it was legal that as long as she hung onto some bit of cardboard she could continue.  Who knows about these things?  She hung onto her mermaid tail and swam the coarse.
Her boat didn't make it but her friend's did even if it was under water the whole way.
Next year, watch out!
Oh, and the third grader with the raft?  He won.  He stayed afloat, his paddle worked and he beat out all of those high schoolers.

We then all drove to see Ceci for her birthday.  They have one of those large above the ground pools and the weather was perfect so everyone was ready for it.

We gave her the diving gear and she was immediately back in the pool for the rest of the day.

Happy Birthday Sweetie!

  1. What great fun river rafts and swimming pools... summer at it's best. Love the little one on the raft's thinking. It's all about the fun! So nice to be with Ceci on her birthday.
