Sometimes You Just Have To

Sometimes you have to do it.  Christmas Eve's children's Mass is one of those times.  It's always extremely crowded, people packed to the rafters so we volunteer to get there early to save seats for us our daughter's family because Adelaide sings in the children's Christmas choir.
We got to church at 3 p.m. for a 5 p.m. service and as we pulled in the parking lot we started to laugh and PH said, "you have to get a picture of this."
Sometimes you just have to do it.  By 3:30 every pew had someone in it and by 4 p.m. the church was full as we waited for a 5 p.m. Mass.   Now, laugh if you will, but when we talked to our son this morning he said where they live, they arrived at their church at 2:30 for a 4 p.m. Mass.
With time on his hands and no hat with him, PH shoveled the church steps and sidewalk and then I salted them.  This after spreading scarves, gloves and camera in a pew.
The choir was so sweet, Adelaide is in back of the girl with the big bow on her head.  I couldn't get any better angle than this!
Our little church is so beautiful and Christmas eve is no exception.
It's a tiny country church that's been here for over 150 years.
This morning we woke to several inches of snow, temperatures hovering around 15 degrees and
the first thing I did, dressed in my bathrobe, was shovel a break for the birds and restock the feeders.
Mr. Cardinal is hanging on by his tiny little claws in that blowing snow.
And then the sun!

  3. Beautiful pictures. I haven't been to midnight mass in too many years. It's wonderful that you have a local church that still does it.

  4. That church is so picture perfect! And good to see that there were no idle hands when arriving so early for !Mass.....would have kept the blood pumping no doubt. Our parishioners would sweep up the dry leaves that blew in at that time of year. Your granddaughter looks the picture of concentration, it's lovely to hear a choir in full voice.....a real treat, and even better when your heart is full of pride. I would imagine your home would be well insulated to stay warm in the snow....what heating works best for you guys?
