Cottage Kitchen: Cozy Cooking in the English Countryside by
Marte Marie Forsberg
It is my game plan when I get a cookbook to review to cook
something from it after carefully reading through and choosing. This book intrigued me on all levels.
Just looking at the pictures was enough for awhile. Then I read through recipe by recipe trying
to choose. Some things sounded
interesting, some not so much. I thought
I was going to have to give up on this one but the pictures and the
introductions to each recipe were so beautiful I looked again.
You see, the author is originally from Norway and fell in
love with the English countryside (who wouldn’t?) and her cooking style is a marriage of both
countries. While the recipes aren’t exotic, many of them have a twist I didn’t think I
could fool my husband with.
But then, everytime I came to the page with the steak and
cheese pie I lingered a little longer than before. So that was my test. It’s basically an
upgraded pot pie but let me tell you, when I tasted that filling I truly wanted
to take my spoon, find a corner and just make the world go away.
Anyone would enjoy this cookbook on all three levels. Or
even just one of them. The photographs are
beautiful, the commentary is inviting
and the recipes would make anyone happy.
Go for it!
